    Cut the line, rerig.

If problem persists, remove more line.

If it continues after that, respool reel with new line.

  2. Are you reeling in slack line? If there’s not tension between the terminal tackle and spool, the bail won’t pick any up, and it will just wind the loose line around.

Who put the line on? If spooled incorrectly the line will have twist when you start. Death sentence.

This shit almost made me quit.

Tie on a swivel. Tie the swivel to a fence post or something. Open the bail or loosen the slack and walk out the line. All or most of it. As much as you can.

Then reel it back on with tension. I hold the rod upright and let the string bend it just a little as I reel it back on.

If that doesnt help (and it really should) you may need some new line

Prespooled line is often low quality and also has high line memory (coils). Your best bet is to first get new line and make sure it’s within spec for your reel. Next, watch a video on how to spool and keep in mind that one of the most important parts is keeping tension on the line when doing so.
