These were both bought this year and have only been used a couple of times. The handle on the Johhny Morris Carbonite baitcasting reel ($140) broke when setting the hook on the very first fish (2.5# bass) i caught on it. The Tourney Special spinning reel ($40) broke when my dog jumped on my outfits in the back seat. I thought the cheaper rod would break, but he just bent a guide that was easily fixed. The reel seat broke and it's a goner, but I did get a $20 replaced handle for the baitcaster. Actually, it worked out pretty good because I do like the casting reel and the new handle is my favorite color (purple). I wasn't particularly happy with the spinning reel and I'm not upset replacing it with a Diawa, Lew's or Shimano reel.
