Decided to take up a hobby and have always loved fishing simulator, got some kit and away I was..
Booked, got license (I’m in UK btw), and tipped up then began setting up the rod which wasn’t hard at all (I had spent the night figuring out how to tie knots which was very difficult lol).
The first cast was an eye opener. I had threaded the line through the fly holder 😭. So was putting full effort with no line coming out. And the lake was massive, so everyone glanced. Tried it for ages thinking it was the rod’s fault. It is certainly true a bad builder blames the tools.
Eventually fixed it and got some good casts, tried different flies etc and unfortunately only got some good bites and one Trout took a fly.
A few tangled lines in trees and a novice swinging barbed hooks around was a bit sketchy in the drizzle and wind.
Overall very enjoyable. The fact I spent 6 hours watching some string float on the water means I clearly have an interest…

That all sounds entirely correct for a first time out. I had the pleasure of fishing in the Peak District on the Haddon estate last fall. If you want a good guide I can suggest one should you find yourself in Bakewell!
I went fly fishing for the first time last weekend and also caught people staring at me as I tried to cast. I never did quite figure it out, but good for you on doing it!
