I have very, very, very, very limited knowledge of fishing. I can tie a fish hook and I lined(?) my own reel with spider braid. I attempted to set up my hook and spinner, but that was all from trial and error and YouTube.
I used to fish as a kid, but all of my tackle and rods were done for me by people who actually had experience doing so. Nobody ever taught me.
I have all of this gear and tackle but no knowledge on how to use it. It was all birthday and Christmas gifts but life has gotten in the way for the past few years and I simply didn't have the opportunity.
I'm planning on fishing both fresh and salt water. (PNW, along the coast).
I am so very appreciative of any tips or advice given.

First, that rod and reel are likely mismatched. It looks like you’ve put a spinning rod on a casting reel. It will work, but isn’t ideal since the first guide on a spinning rod is much larger. I recommend getting a value spinning rod.
If you want to target ling cod, rock fish, and halibut then I’d probably recommend a different setup.
