I got this ammonite as a kinda desk trinket, and was wondering if it would possibly be aquarium safe as it would definitely get more attention and love inside one of my tanks.

Im not sure what type of rock it is on, but it doesn't seem like it's treated with any fancy chemicals, just cut away.

I wouldn’t. The chances are very high that it wouldn’t be safe for your aquarium (or safe for your trilobite, either).

  2. Haven’t put a Trilobite in my tanks but have tons of horn coral and flat rocks full of other fossils. Never any issues.

Depends on the mineralization of the fossil and the mineral content of the surrounding rocks. If they are completely inert it’ll be fine, but if they are reactive rocks like limestone or contain calcium carbonate I wouldn’t

I would boil it first. Put it in an isolated tank, then test out the pH, water quality, etc.

I found fossils straight from stagnant summer streams in Texas and put some in my tank. Nothing bad happened (over 2 years ago). I didn’t boil it or anything 🫣 My pleco’s favorite resting spot is in the crook of a large ammonite segment. Add at your own risk lol

You could coat it in clear silicon so it doesn’t leak into your tank.
