The brown trout were loving the San Juan and squirmy wormies this weekend. I got a few on a frenchie jig, too, but there was a clear preference for the worms! The purist in me likes to go with the classic San Juan worm with the chenille body, but I keep hearing that the rubber jiggly/wiggly squirmy wormies are more tempting to trout. What do you all like to use? Do you see the rubber squirmy wormies working better than the classic San Juan?

The secret no one wants to admit is that all fish everywhere hit the squirmy wormy. Fish want what they want. And what they want is the squirmy wormy.
Now excuse me while I tie some size 20 caddis flies on my $200 vise, to throw with my $1200 Winston, all the while knowing that what the fish really crave is a double cheeked up night crawler
Squirmy Worm for President.
Am I doing it wrong? I’ve literally never caught a fish on a worm despite everyone saying it’s the panacea for when fish won’t take anything. I think this is all a conspiracy put together by Big Worm.
Here’s my hot take: I don’t catch shit on either. Every once in a while they’ll take but usually I catch on my top fly. I mostly use wormies because I don’t care when I break one off.
I must not know how to fish them or I fish them in the wrong place. I haven’t gotten a bite on my San Juan’s. Ever. I fish northeast/Canadian Maritime region.
