Hi. I’m trying to catch a trout. Last time I got like 20 bites in 1 hour but was able to catch only 3 trouts in couple hours.

I’m using powerbait and hook #8

I feel a twitch, setting the hook and nothing. No fish no bait. Every time.

I thought maybe I’m setting it too early so I tried to wait longer after getting a bite. Felt twitch, 0.5 second and it’s gone. Not a single piece of bait left on the hook.

  1. I was never big on the powerbait dough, I’ve found the power eggs to be vastly more effective and much less hassle.

Easy fix: stop using powerbait. Not only does it not stay on the hooks, it’s horrible for the fish and the watershed.

Just use bread or something. Or some type of action lure like spinners.

  3. if youre using powerbait, you want to have some of the hook exposed and dont touch the rod until the trout takes off. they have a habit of putting it in their mouth and spitting it back out to test if its food. i use a bobber and i see them constantly bring my bobber down just for it to pop back up but eventually they keep it down and thats when i know i have em. I like to mold the powerbait on the section of the hook with the baitholders and make it elongated to keep as much of the bent part of the hook exposed (looks kinda like a scud fly)

  4. Like the other guy said, the power eggs are the truth. Much better hookup ratio. I found with the dough you have to straight up let them swallow it to get a good hookup, which is obviously suboptimal if you’re not looking to keep every fish you catch. Two power eggs on a size 8 hooks, hook exposed, you can set the hook on the first twitch/bite and expect to get a solid hookup
