Hello, all!
I'm an amateur with aquariums, having run a 36 gallon tank for about two years before upgrading to a 37 gallon, and then doing a full gravel to sand overhaul a handful of months ago. I lost my soul cat earlier this month, and to help fill the void I opted to start a new 20 gallon tank as a backup to my larger one, and to have a more peaceful environment compared to my main tank.
My current thoughts are to start a shrimp/neon/guppy tank, without needing to breed, though I feel like that will be inevitable with such stock, but I digress. I also opted to use some Stratum for the first time to help grow better and healthier plants since I haven't had much luck prior, including in my sand overhaul. I've done some research on adding sand over the Stratum, but I'm still on the fence for that.
Once my Stratum arrives and I set everything up fully, I plan on cycling for a couple of weeks before adding live stock of course, along with cycling in water from my main tank to help add to the cycle process. I feel like I have everything somewhat in place, but I'm open to suggestions or pointers if anyone has advice here. I've owned Ghost shrimp a number of times but they couldn't thrive properly in my main tank due to some of my other fish being aggressive.
I've spent the last few days researching and reading up on the different breeds and cares for shrimp out there and I have a general idea of what to look for. Again, I'm very open to advice and/or tips on what to do, to look for, etc.
Thank you!

Amazon nano scape.
20lb saltwater sand
3-4 live rocks stacked and glued
Fluval 207 canister filter
1 20 gallon rated sponge filter
1 power head
1 fluval sea light
Add water and let cook about a month
2 occelaris clownfish
1 Blue Green chromi
Zoas,
Hammers,
Torches
20 galaxy rasbora, 8-10 otocinclus catfish, 30 neocaridina shrimp of a single color, and 4 horned nirnite snails.
All of them have a extremely low bio load which is great with a 20 gallon Plus all them would look awesome together doing their thing in a heavily planted 20 gallon .
A single betta
10 neon tetras. 6 Cory’s. A powder blue gouarmi. Paint the back black. Black sand. Plants. Rocks. At least that’s a similar setup I’m going for for a 29 I’m setting up

Lobster
Walsted with mystery snail and shrimps
Shrimp. And shrimp. And plants. And shrimp. Galaxy Raspbora group. And one nerite snail.
A new stand? Maybe I’m tripping but it looks very precarious.
But for real stocking- a honey gourami, 6 kuhli loaches and 12 CPDs with neocaridina/caridina
Or a german blue ram, 10 cardinal tetra and 6 corydoras of your choice
Or get 24 pygmy corys. Wonderful fish
Pick a cool region/place of nature you love. Make an ecosystem based around fish native to it/inspired by it. I’m working on a southeast Asian/Burmese mountain stream aquarium bcos it reminds me of my beloved mountain streams here in Oregon.
Walstad method of course with tons of cool plants and detritivores
