Hi all! š New here, my teenage daughter and I just got our first bettas as a new hobby we can share together and weāre super excited except after 3 days of googling I still canāt identify what kind of betta I got!?
He was a little more expensive than the others so I assume thereās something special but the employee had no idea. He just said some kind of frilltail but I donāt think thatās right. Her name is Betty White (couldnāt resist the play on ābettaā and come on, icon!) and from what Iāve read Iām guessing sheās either a half moon with a torn tail or maybe a rose tail? As for the coloring sheās a beautiful pale pale pink with just one reddish stripe on her right front whisker fin. I know āwhiteā bettas often change color after finding a happier environment than those darn cups but Iām holding my breath that maybe sheās actually a pastel pink?? Oh and she also has the prettiest light blue eyes! Google tells me sheās a rare find but I need some confirmation from you guys. Regardless Iām smitten with my new little friend but itād sure be nice to know what she (he?) is! Thankyou!!
(Oh and I should add that yes I know biorb tanks arenāt ideal for bettas but we already had it and those things are expensive! Itās 5 gallons and I added an adjuster thingy so I could turn the water flow way down. Iām thinking of switching out the white plastic fan for a tall live plant b/c Iām a little worried about the sharp edges injuring her when she swims through it)

Sheās a male, probably a Rosetail based on the ruffles. Halfmoon have a 180° straight line tail with smooth round edging, like a D. I love his tank style, but be aware, since he has a heavier tail, he may need a longer more shallow tank, especially as he gets older, as they often have more difficulty swimming to the top in deep water. Unfortunately betta have been bred to look beautiful and not so much efficient swimmers. My 3 year old mustard rosetail just moved from a normal tank to a shallow tank to help him get to the surface easier and he loves it! Your fish is beautiful and congratulations on your new pal!
Follow up, I would definitely get a leaf rest, hammock or floating log or a suction cup tube near the top of the tank for him to rest in. There are a ton of floating or suction options online.
I love the white sand, almost makes me regret doing black in my tank š„²
I would definetly put in some resting spots. There is a guy on etsy who 3-d prints aquarium safe decor, including chaise lounge betta rests. Could be fun.
Itās a boy
Google says maybe a platinum blue eye betta, white samurai, pink orchid or a white opaque??

He looks like mine that was sold as a āsuper deltaā he started out the same stark white as yours but is getting color after a few weeks with us. ETA pretty certain you have a male not female.
