I have had a bad back injury last year. I am about healed up, doc says I should be good for kayaking this summer. problem is… how do I get my stuff around now? what if I have to portage? I am a bit of a loner and usually just throw my yak on my shoulder and carry it around. no longer an option for me as I can barely lift 30lbs without my back catching fire.
please help? I really don't want to have to give up one of the only fun hobbies I have left.

Maybe trailer the kayak and go out on a lake? Very little lifting when using a trailer and no portage to be concerned about on a lake. It may not work but it might be worth some thought.
They make kayak carts with wheels that you strap to the underside of the yak to help roll it around.
I use wheels to drag the yak around, and use a moving blanket to protect my car when shoving it on the crossbar. Not much lifting.. that view looks a lot like the Erie Canal where I used to go! Oh and my Kayak can store the wheels so if you have to portage they are along for the ride.
Pick up truck or trailer. Kayak cart. Wear a back brace. Pick the locations where do you don’t have to portage through the water. Better seats. Or add a gel seat cushion
You should be fine a year out. I broke 8 vertebrae in my back and I’ve been back to do doing miles a day multiple times a week.
But my pain tolerance is high.
