This is my first time using a lure and I bought a 1/2 oz Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless Silver spoon. The hook is fixed to the lure.
My rod is a Penn Squadron IV Ultra fast spinning rod with a 1 oz lure weight limit.
I mainly fish saltwater in Florida for Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, trout and flounder. The water is usually clear so thats why i got a silver spoon.
Whats the best approach for catching these fish with this lure?

Just cats and retrieve, mate! As simple as that! You can play with depth and retrieval speed. For reds on the flats, keep it high. For mackarel, you can let it sink before retrieving. You get the point….
This is one of my favorites for chain pickerel, but they work for SO many species.
You can simply cast and retrieve, which is what I usually do with the most success. But, twitching it and letting it drop is also great. Just experiment.
They are underrated around me and pretty cheap. Just make sure you tune the weedless guard to be right on the tip of the hook point, which is what they recommend, and what I also recommend from experience.
I don’t fish in saltwater, so I can’t help you with techniques for those fish, but I have used Johnson Silver Minnows for decades for bass, so I will give you a couple of pieces of advice. First, you need to sharpen the hook before every use. They come dull out of the package because the hook point is covered with chrome plating, and after you scrape that off, the hook will rust practically before your eyes. You should rinse your lure after every use in saltwater. Second-tie direct. Don’t use a snap swivel. A swivel will cause the spoon to spin too easy rather than wobble. A stiff mono leader also helps prevent it from spinning. You want it to wobble, not spin. If it spins, you are retrieving too fast.
I fish Mosquito Lagoon and would not leave the dock without one…absolutely the best blind casting lure for those fish and for for covering a lot of water. In the lagoon we cast past a sand hole in the grass flats and use a medium speed retrieval. Would want to go slower over sand for flounder.
It’s a classic for a reason.
