Don’t mind the cloudy water, it was a bit messy getting it situated in an established tank. It’s walstad so it can’t be a huge space since there still needs to be a sand cap but I think it’s cute!
Made with 3/4 of the top of a juice bottle melted carefully to be flush with the front of the tank. I have a wood burner tool I use exclusively for melting plastic for various projects. If you do this use good ventilation and a respirator like I did!
It’s mostly intended for the loaches in this tank to have an extra secret refuge because I’m hoping to add a betta (depending on temperament) to it once everyone gets established and my scuds reproduce. I want to make another for my other tank with guppies and shrimp but it’s older and being treated right now so I don’t want to disturb the sediment for a while. I think I’m going to use two and maybe silicone them together to round a corner but I haven’t decided.
I slid it into place and used some tubing to suck up the sand inside, building the shoulders with small gravel to keep it weighed down and flush with the glass. I laid down some more pea gravel to keep them from messing with the thinner sand cap too much (hopefully) and back filled to level the top lip with my sand layer.

I love it. I bet they will too!
I dig that!!!
Creative! I’d try this if I had deeper substrate. Maybe in my future dream shrimp tank
Wow this is smart. Does it want to float up at all? Or did you glue it down?
