Betta Fish: 40 liter Classroom tank almost done cycling

I recently started a tank for my students because they wanted a betta, and luckily I worked at an aquarium shop for 4 years and have a good knowledge on how to keep fish. Any suggestions on other creatures to add to this tank with a betta? I have some in mind but would like to hear your ideas too!
