I ordered some plants from Dustin’s Fishtanks and one came with a little hitch hiker of a snail I’ve kept in a jar for a week and he’s growing on me
My biggest fear is adding it to my planted aquarium with my male koi betta and the snail multiplying and making lil snail babies
I can’t identify what type of snail it is :’)

Don’t add it, in a month you’ll have like 30
that looks like a bladder snail they multiply like crazyyy i would suggest not adding them
No. I’ve had them in a 20 gallon and a 10 gallon, they reproduce like hell and destroy plants. They may seem harmless or controllable, but after it hits 20 you cannot control them without mass extermination. I had $140 worth of plants in my 20gallon and they ate everything but 2 amazon sword.
It looks like a bladder snail, I’d say as long as you don’t overfeed your tank and check for eggs regularly, you can realistically manage and maintain a small population of bladder snails. They only really become an uncontrollable infestation when you overfeed your tank, otherwise they’re fine little friends to have. I keep a healthy population in my 36 gallon and they keep the place pretty clean. If you do find that they’re getting out of hand, cut back on how much you’re feeding the tank and take the time to cull the population if you have to. You can also regularly check for eggs if you really want to make sure things stay in control.
Who on here is going to be able to stop you?
You can absolutely keep these guys just like you would any other livestock. Beware that they do reproduce quickly and easily, which is exacerbated by over feeding your tank. They’re an excellent cleanup crew, including surfaces, substrate and types of algae which grow on plants. I have them in two of my planted tanks and I actually love having them to help hospital certain plants as they eat grime and algae off of them. Important to know, I’ve also let them overtake a tank and they will absolutely out compete shrimp for food IF YOU LET THEM. When I find too many in my shrimp tank, I manually remove them with tongs or siphon vacuum when performing cleaning and water changes. You can even cull the herd further by removing the egg clusters which are unmistakable. I feed excess snails to my loaches and move big ones to another tank regularly. Overall, I love them but they can absolutely become a nuisance. Funny thing is that if you buy plants you will likely get them sooner rather than later.
They reproduce fast, but they are objectively good for most tanks. They eat algae and detritus.
If you can see one that big, you probably already have 10 more you haven’t met yet
I like them. The betta will probably help control the population for you lol
yes do it. as long as they arent the only algae/biofilm eaters in there they won’t reproduce very much.
If you found one on a plant, I’d guess there’s more that are smaller or even eggs. So add him or don’t, you’re gonna have a bunch soon!
DONT DO IT!!
They reproduce like crazy but if you have somethig in your tank that’ll eat them, it might be good. My dojo loach ate them
Oh God! You do not want it ❤️
Yes you can add it.
I wouldn’t unless you have assassin snails, cichlids, loaches, gouramis, catfish or pea puffers.
