I want to close the gap between my east and west coast fishing expeditions- what state would you prioritize?

Eventually, I’d like to say I had the privilege of slingin’ a bug in all 50 states + Canadian provinces and territories (I’m currently sitting at 2 provinces fished).

  1. NY, OH, ME, and MD. If any state is next it’ll probably be VA or PA since they’re the closest to me.

  2. The entire western 3rd. If I was gonna pick “What’s next” Probably Hawaii (big Bones) Florida and Alaska, after that one pf the NE States for Atlantic Salmon

  3. To actually close the gap so you have a continuous map from coast to coast, fish in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Chasing redfish in Louisiana is a whole different ball game that I think everyone should try. It’s like dumber carp on steroids. They’ll take ya to backing if there is enough open water.

  4. IN, OH, KY, AR, HI, NM, UT, CO, WY, ID, MT, PA. Next will likely be MI. I live in OH and for whatever reason I still haven’t gone up to MI to fish. My trip out west this year will start in Toronto since I’ll be there for a couple of nights of concerts and then drive out to Wyoming. Figure I’ll stop in MI on the way.

I’ve only fly fished in 5 states: CO, NM, NY, IA, WI.

Going back to NM next week for my family’s annual San Juan trip.

Next new state will probably be MN.

You need to do Washington state.

Yes, steelheading on the Skagit is a thing, but so many outstanding rivers for trout.

    So.

    Many.

Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho. I just moved to Washington so that’ll be next.

    NY, NJ, FL.

Florida blows the other two away. And the rest of the states too, lmao. I can’t fathom booking a trip out west to go to some trout stream when there’s flats and mangroves full of tarpon and snook.

PA. NY. VT. NC. NJ. I’d really like to hit the driftless, and about a million other places.

So far only KY, MO, AR, TN, AL, and MT. Hard to say which I would pick next, though I’d like to spend some more time in the salt so TX, LA, MS or FL would all be good. So far my only salt experience was on the beach in AL casting into the surf for a few small Jack and Ladyfish, it was a blast though.

For having the most rivers in the lower 48 I’m surprised more people haven’t listed Idaho.

PA, NY, MD, OH, FL, CO, WY, MT, plus VA & DC unsuccessfully. I might have tried to in SC one time, but I can’t remember. In Canada I’ve fished in QC & BC, and the only place I’ve fly fished outside of North America is the western edge of Catalonia, Spain. Despite living in southwestern Pennsylvania, I’ve still not fished in West Virginia, so that might be next, otherwise it would most likely be Michigan or Ontario.
