IMO NJ is known more for Trout + Striped Bass fishing, but there are bound to be largemouth/smallmouth bass in a lake near you. It seems North NJ is heavily pressured, but central + south jersey have more options

  2. I grew up in Monmouth and Ocean county and caught a ton of large mouth bass when I was a kid.

  3. I live here and think so, tho it’s very populated so can be pressure and lots of private property.

  4. Depends on where. I’ve fished South Jersey and there are enough small bodies of water around that hold decent fish to keep you entertained if you’re on a kayak.

“good” is very subjective. It’s not *bad* but it’s also not Texas or Tennessee.

  6. Compared to what? If you’re ranking best bass fishing states in America it’s in the bottom half of that list but they’re still there to be caught.

If there’s a ditch, most likely there’s a pickle in there. It’s not the best water in the country, but there’s plenty of water and it’s full of fish.

Depends on where you are. I’ve caught a few while camping. The Pine Barrens area has less due to how acidic the pine trees make the lakes. You’re more likely to get pickerel but I did catch a decent bass in Atsion.

  9. Last week i was catching about three 1.5 – 3 pound largemouth an hour fishing small ponds in Florida (around sun rise). By comparison, i can count the number of three 1.5+ pound lmb DAYS i had in NJ last year on two hands. So there are bass to be caught, but it can be tough.
