I spoiled this up with 10lb mono maybe 2 months ago.
I can’t really tell just by eye how much of the spool is uncovered, or how many yards exactly are on it, but I’m seeing the red stripe under the line. Is it already time to re spool?
Alternatively, I’ve been thinking of spooling this one up with some braid. Is now a good time to just use this as backing or is it too much?

It looks like it’s just a little under spooled right now. I’d fish it until necessary to change. Line selection is going to depend on what you’re fishing for and what the goal is. Absolutely nothing wrong with using mono. You’ll gain some advantages with braid but you’ll also have other things to manage like leaders. Ideally your line will be one continuous piece. If you want to shave a few dollars, then use that mono as backing but you’ll have to take more off
