36 gallon tank ive had almost over a year with a fluval Fx2 Canister filter. I have like 6 Cory's 12 tetras and a betta. Decided to do maintenance on my filter and when I started it back it, it shot out a FUUUUCK TON of debris/trash into the tank while it primed back up. Filter is filtering but im hopeing all that trash that shot out wasn't a killing blow to my aquarium. last maintenance on my canister was probably a few months ago… dont judge me.

As long as its gunk from the tank.. you didnt kill anything .. this is like a buffet for Cory’s and neons.. mine does this from time to time.. and my neon and Cory’s go nuts.. it’ll clear quickly .. but the fish will be fine.
This is vassically the same as rinsing a filter in your tank water.. its beneficial.. DONT WORRY..FISH ARE FINE WITH IT..
That’s just gunk trapped in the out pipe. It’s been in your tank for months/years, only now you can see it. The filter will pick it back up and your fish will have fun picking at it in the meantime. Worry not 🫶🏻
This happened to me four months ago! Everyone is still alive on my end.
If it was just gunk from your filter it won’t be a problem at all 🫶🏻 its usually good bacteria anyways. I use my filter media/gunk for seeding
