Hello! Apologies if I’m asking dumb questions here I’m an ultra newbie, I just put together my first little scape over the weekend and was pretty pleased with my first attempt.

My first two days after completion everybody looked happy and seemed to be producing lots of bubbles (First pic) but that stopped yesterday out of the blue. I was concerned the water was not to their liking so this morning I’ve just done a water swap and started a new run of Prime and Stability. (Second pic onward)

I’m already seeing an improvement in bubble production but to my unexperienced eyes may be wearing rose tinted goggles here, any advice on how to make these guys happier? / Do they look particularly unhealthy? Any advice is welcome, I am a student with much to learn.

The plant is green, healthy, it’s fine. Bubbles are nothing bad. It’s just that when you fill a new container with water, air gets mixed into that, form bubbles, and then the bubbles slowly get released. It takes a few days but eventually without surface agitation (a filter) they will all float to the top and pop. You didn’t need to add any chemicals or add ons. The real test is that the plant may however melt as it adjust to your water quality. Don’t be surprised if it loses a ton of leaves very suddenly, this is the plant learning your water parameters and it will grow back

Don’t know about unhappy. But it does look a bit cramped. Why don’t you go with a plant only aquarium? Seems like you love it. I mean, you don’t have to go 20 gal or more unless you want to. Lots of nano tanks out there. That fit on a desk.

Jus curious. How long have you been growing it? Trimming it won’t hurt. You will however feel the need to plant those clippings. Maybe another jar. Grow it out a bit. And gift it to a friend.
