Currently he’s in a 2.5 gallon tank. It was one we had cycled, and he wasn’t doing good at the pet store so I rescued him and put him in this temporary setup. (He was barely an inch long anyway so it wasn’t too big a concern.) I’m looking to put him in a bigger space, would the shallow tanks meant for shrimp be a good option? Do they like more vertical space, or horizontal space?

I would do horizontal .
I know Petco has a shallow 6.8gallon that goes on sale all the time. I snagged mine for like $34 a few months back. It’s the same footprint of a standard 10gal but shorter
