Hey all,
I’ve purchased some advanced hand made rigs and am well impressed with them over the traditional shop brought pre tied rigs.
However, every time I’ve used them I’ve blanked (about 5 day sessions now of blanking when using them).
I’m trying to get down to the bottom of this in all honesty and see if the rigs need changing or if this is a simple skill/location/air pressure issue, any help is greatly appreciated.
Set-up:
– One of these rigs (around 4 inches fluero to braid multi rig/slip d)
– 18lb mainline
– Korda safe zone leaders or Korda tungsten tubing with the traditional lead system (using 2 oz leads mainly with 3 oz for the recent session)
Bait choices:
– I’ve tried pop ups (ensuring they sit perfectly in water before casting), maggot medusa rigs with a 16 mm Dumbell wafter, single wafters, bottom baits, snowman’s, etc.
What I’ve tried:
– Single hookbait
– PVA mesh hooked
– PVA stick going through the actual rig itself
Weather conditions of my sessions:
– Few days where the sun was beating down on the water, pressure was likely high, and in the evening the temp went to 2 degrees
– Sunny but windy weather
– mix of sunny and overcast
However, similar folk who aren’t using zigs or anything seem to still be catching in similar conditions. And most recently on a normal hair rig my missus pulled out 4 carp and I didn’t (though appreciate location may also be a part to play here? – also note, I set these up and casted them out for her during the night time catches, same exact methods I used on these)
Can anyone please help me get to the bottom of this, whether I should bin these rigs, or whether it’s me/the weather conditions/bait?
Pictures attached of me trying the tank test on the PVA stick, the snowman and the rigs themselves for reference.

I recast probably every 4-5 hrs if I’m on a lake with a bunch of carp there (stocked fisheries), targeting specimens
Hook size is 6 if this helps
Nothing apeears wrong with the rig presentation.
So My first thought is what kinda bottom are you fishing on, and what depth?
If its silt you could be barried deep into the silt and your rig is none effective.
The weather conditions you mentioned are not ideal for fishing the bottom in deep water. ( Prime zig conditions)
Also is the lake stocked with silvers? because using a pva stick or pva bag on lakes like that is tough because the silvers will clear you out in seconds and you just have a lone bait out there. I would be baiting choped and whole bollies as well.
Other than that I would suggest its just shit luck lol..
