The forecast for my local coastal redfish haunts was too windy for a proper test of my newly acquired motorized yak. Sight fishing would have been impossible. So I ran to my local river to test it out, get familiar with it, and christen it with some fish.

Verdict: it’s incredibly stable, holds a ton of my gear, and paddles well with an SUP paddle board. I get 15 mph with the 6 hp Tohatsu and it’s a smooth ride. I managed to catch some largemouth and Guadalupe bass, bluegill, and even a freshwater drum.

I can’t wait to get to some far-flung flats and chase the reds as soon as the winds and rain permit.
