Betta Fish: New Rescue- Hardest Recovery yet

This poor guy had been in his cup since January 21st. Ammonia in his cup was off the charts, like dark dark green. He was floating on the surface and clearly was severely malnourished, only reason I could tell he was alive was the very subtle gill movement. I didn't plan on getting a Betta but I had that sharp pain in my chest when I thought about leaving him there. I had little hope that he would recover but I thought I could at least give him a cycled, clean tank to pass peacefully away in. He was labeled as a Black Orchid Betta but is so pale, you really can't tell besides that he is black in color. When I first added him to his tank, I thought the shock would kill him immediately, but he has managed to spend the last few days simply resting on floating plants near the surface. I didn't think he would make it more than a day but today makes day 4 and he sat up to look at me, no longer laying on his side. I don't have any good pictures of him yet as I don't want to disturb him.

I haven't named him yet either as I fear the moment I do, he will sense my attachment and die, but I'm open to suggestions

I know that we see similar stories on here all the time so I usually don't share my rescues, but I broke up with my boyfriend, which is normally who I would talk to about these poor babies. So now I'm telling all of you instead.

So thank you for sharing this little fishes existence with me. Hopefully he is here for the long haul, and if not, I'm glad I got to spend the time I did with him❤️
