Went to cycle my tank and found my clear vinyl tubing was covered in a goop, looks like it’s just leaching. This is a fairly new tube any thoughts on cause, too much heat from light ? Also how should I go about ridding my tank of these flurries that now float around. I am horrified for my baby’s

  1. It’s biofilm!!! This is exactly what you want in a cycling tank, it is the start of beneficial bacteria, forms on tubing, heaters, filters, & hardscape. All life will feed on it one way or another. Do not scrub it away, just let it run its course – you’ll know your tank is establishing when it disperses on its own.

Definitely try to do more research in these weeks of cycling, will absolutely save you a lot of unnecessary anxiety 🙏 – coming from someone who started this entire hobby less than a year ago.

Scour this sub, you’ll learn so much. Even just looking up posts about cycling, how you’ll set things up (bare/planted, sponge filter/sump, etc) and even whatever you plan to stock the tank with.

If it’s a newly set up tank, it’s probably just a standard new tank goop, globber or slizz. If so, it will go away on its own.
