Hi I’m super new in reddit so not sure how it goes here but I brought home a betta today after my fish tank cycle was completed!
It says he is a black orchid crown tail but he doesn’t really look like one? If anyone can identify him I’d appreciate it!!
I have a cat named Onion whom I named after my favorite food so naturally I had to name my betta after my second favorite food – Potato.
Potato is very active and super smart!! He has already figured out where his food bowl is and wait for food there! I don’t think he likes blood worm so I’ll be giving it to my bf who has his own tank going on.
I have never had a betta so any tips and fun facts about bettas would help me understand potato a lot!!!
I’m so excited I love this guy

He’s gorgeous! So refreshing on here to see someone who cycled their tank first! They will try to squeeze into any crevice they can find, so make sure there’s not crevices in the wood. They can jump. (Out of the tank). As you have seen already, they are like dogs/cats trapped in a fish body. They like to rest near the surface is a spot is provided to do so. How big is your tank? Some like having a snail or something to entertain them. Bm some don’t care, and some will attack. You can see if there are hoops they can swim through for tricks, or a ping pong ball to push around. They will jump for snacks if you try that. We used to give mine tiny shreds of cooked shrimp (not sure if that’s bad or not)… and they would jump for it. I trust you have a heater?
He looks like a black dragon half moon. Definitely no signs of a crown tail, but meh. Make sure to watch his eyes, and vision. Dragon scales normally always have issues with eyesight, and a lot go fully blind. I have two dragons and one has seeing issues and the other is fully blind. Very pretty guy though!
