Bought a new bait caster today and trying to set it up. Watching a video they say this reel has a “Zero Adjuster” it’s where the tension knob is (behind the drag spur). So this isn’t a tension knob? On my other baitcaster this is the knob you turn so you lure just barely starts to fall. Well on this one they say leave it from the factory or dial it in so there is virtually no spool side-to-side play. Ok so I’ve done that but this thing backlashes with just the lure wight hitting the ground. I’m new to bait casters is this not a good reel for me? I don’t want to have to use my thumb. I want it dummy proof and so far I’m getting backlashes with his the weight of the jerkbait hitting the ground. Do I just treat this “zero adjuster” like a normal tension knob. I.e. hit the button and the lure barely falls. I need some insight because I’m confused and upset about this new reel.

Yah it’s a little bit harder to move but you are able to get a grip with your fingers your able to I always do it with mine when I get them new. I just move it a little bit and turn the breaks up a little more because it goes to 20 instead of 10 like other brands
I don’t think there are any baitcasters that don’t require some manual speed control with your thumb, unless you have your breaks turned way up, but you wouldn’t be able to get much distance. Maybe look into swapping for a shamano DC reel. Those are geared towards taking the effort out of preventing backlash
