I've been trying to catch some craw/crayfish with a trap I got from Walmart for days now. it's got a single smallish square opening. Ive tried chicken gizzards and cut open sausage suspended about halfway up and no luck yet . Opening aimed both perpendicular and head on to the current

Today when checking the trap I spotted some small crawfish chilli ng at the trap but nothing inside. I imagine they're having trouble finding their way into the opening.

Is there another way I should setup an position this trap? Any advice? maybe I need to get a different style trap?

Are you certain crawdads are present in the water you’re fishing? If so, I’ve had success with a can of cat food with holes punched in it. Might try getting it further out as well.

  2. Never trapped, but a buddy of mine takes cheap chicken drumsticks and throws one on a hook in high crawfish area, waits 5 minutes, and reels in and you’ll have half a dozen of them clinging to the chicken. Just make sure that is legal in your area obviously.

Sounds Ike you need different spots or to leave the traps longer. Let the crayfish find the way and show others the way in
