I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
At first, I wanted a GoPro to capture my fishing trips, especially the moment I hook a fish. But then I realized that if I only go fishing occasionally, carrying an extra device every time is kind of a hassle.
Later, I just started using my iPhone instead.
Features like pre-recording (which lets you save footage right after it happens), combined with the phone’s ultra-wide-angle lens and image stabilization, have covered most of my needs pretty well.
I even messed around with a small tool to make the experience a bit more GoPro-like.
After using it for a while, I feel like it’s more than enough for casual fishing, and way more convenient.
I’m curious — do you guys bring a GoPro specifically for fishing? Or do most of you find a smartphone is sufficient?

Why do you need to film? I usually prefer to be present in nature when I fish and that includes not worrying about phones or other tech.
Just live in the moment.
No one care about me catching fish so I’m the only one watching. Trying to record a catch is less fun then just making the catch.
I leave everything I can and try to focus on the “here and now”.
