I have exclusively fished salt water with live bait. Don’t know how to use lures, don’t really know how to freshwater fish at all. my friend with no kids has gotten really into over the last couple years and gotten quite good.
he taught me a lot of useful technique, we mainly fished with frogs in water like in the picture and got hits all day long. If it cleared up a little we would use texas rig flukes which I had absolutely no luck with but he was still getting constant hits.
I missed a lot of bites because I’m so unused to fishing by with a lure and already reeling when the fish hits it was a new thing to learn I only actually caught one bass I had two others hooked that the line got snagged on a log and they got off but I had bites all day and it was a great day
As you can see my friend has all the gear. I’m in a 14ft canoe (that’s quite unwieldy alone) but it still works. Also we saw a small gator which was fun.
Lake Conroe for those wondering

Yeah, fishing with someone who knows what they are doing is a great way to learn new methods. Glad to see your getting out there and having fun
Im glad you listened to him I tried to take my mothers husband out yesterday and he refused to listen to me and spent the whole time fishing with a spinner 2 inches under a bobber 😭 I kept kindly saying “that would probably work if you took the bobber off” and he never did.
I need time to make money for a kayak
