Betta Fish: How much room do I leave so a betta cant jump?
I can't really have a lid due to my drift wood being above the rim of the tank. I'm planning to get a betta fish soon, how much room do I leave at the top of the tank to prevent jumping??

I think a couple inches should be okay, could go a bit more to be on the safe side but could possibly be a minimum of one inch roughly
You could also get some floating plants as cover which might make jumping a little less likely

I personally would find a way to cut off the pieces of driftwood that come up and get a lid. I’m just anxious like that though. Alternatively you could get a mesh lid and cut the mesh around the pieces that stick up.

I always recommend a lid. I know tanks without a lid look beautiful with the plants and drift wood sticking out. But I would never take the risk of my betta jumping out and dying just to have a „pretty tank“. Bettas can actually also get a cold when the water surface is too cold which can happen without a lid. So me personally wouldn’t take the risk. If you do want to take the risk I would leave about 5cm at least
