In my area, and my group of anglers, the 5lb mark kinda seems to be the standard for taking a picture on the scale.
How big is big enough in your neck of the woods?

Probably like 3+, if i get a few of those I have a chance to actually catch a decent bag of fish. Not award winning, but decent. Catch a few threes or fours and get a kicker and you can say hey I got something going!

I have a measuring tape on my paddle for my fishing kayak. If I hold the bass to that and it’s 20″ or longer I break out the scale

My small ruler goes up to 18in. Everything over that gets weighed. Anything under that gets eat lol

Honestly I (quickly) weigh every bass I get because I track all of them in a spreadsheet each year. Where I fish there aren’t many 5lb+ fish so they are all usually 1-3lb but I still find it interesting to track

If it looks over 2 I’m getting the scale.

Anything over 3lb are a blast to catch all day. I’d say I starting reaching for the scale about 4lb to my eye. Anything 4-5lbs is a big bonus on the day.
