Fished as a kid and getting back into it. Pretty much a novice. Went out this morning, don't think I even got a bite but I am mostly practicing at this point and enjoying the time. Any recommendations on lures or baits, areas to fish in a fast running creek? It should be stocked in the next 2 weeks.

I’m trying to figure this out too. I live near a river that runs REALLY fast. Doing research over the past year I think you need to flyfish in order to actually get anything from here

If you don’t have any fishing restrictions, I’d try some inline spinners first. Simple jig head with a white or pink soft bait. Can’t go wrong with a simple worm on a hook too

Id fish any slow piece of water and behide any structure I came across. The fishing wont be great but youll hook up

I went to Colorado and the conditions were horrible, but I learned how to fish blown out fisheries.

Once the sediment settles , they will be hugging banks and in side channels .

  5. You’re going to have a hell of a time catching anything in a creek when it’s blown out like that. Something with lots of bright colors would probably be your best bet, I guess. Spinners etc. It is just not the time of year to be fishing in streams/rivers. Assuming you’re in the northern hemisphere

I would generally agree with other commenters that you should just wait for the water to come down, but if I took the time to go fishing, I’m still going to try a few casts. My plan would be a gold spoon down stream towards the bank. Slow retrieval, rod tip up, and try to get it right up against the bank as you bring it in. If there is a spot with a large rock near the bank, target that from down stream to upstream and use fake or real worm or other imitation like a frog or mouse. Let the imitation float around the rock and then drop your rod tip so it sinks a bit behind the rock. The fish are still there and willing to eat, but they are going to be where water is slower or where they can find some protection.

  7. Find the pockets where it slows down and fish those. The fish are piled up in them or at the bottom behind rocks cause they don’t like fast water either.

It’s muddier than I would like so go with something that has a good shape to it. I’d throw a big stonefly nymph or a leech pattern.
