I scored this Spinfisher VII 5500 for $100 so I’m looking for a 10-11’ rod to pair it with. Since I got a good deal on the reel I can spend a little more on the rod, trying to keep it midrange so $200-300ish. I’m an inshore/nearshore on the boat guy so first surf rod but will probably get a fair bit of use since I have three little ones now who like to play in the sand. Will be primarily fishing right at the NC/SC line and down into Charleston.

For that 5500, stay with 10′ over 11′. A medium-heavy surf rod rated 2-4 oz is the sweet spot on the NC/SC line for pompano rigs and cut mullet, and it will feel a lot less clumsy on a first surf setup.
