disclaimers: he has some bad fin tears from a couple weeks ago. he was nipping his fins while he was in a smaller container for moving purposes. i’m still in the process of treating them with aquarium salt and betta fix occasionally. the water is also cloudy and dark because i just added tannins. water parameters are perfect.

i woke up today and noticed his one eye looked a little funky and i’m worried it may be ich. i can’t tell though because he’s a platinum betta. i won’t be able to treat it until my next paycheck in which is next thursday and i’m just very very worried. i circled the eye with the issue, and the other picture is his other eye for comparison.

It’s diamond eye, basically a scale grows over their eye. It happens a lot to bettas with metallic scales. Also, don’t use anything that ends in “-fix” as it tends to do more harm than good.

  2. I’m pretty sure that’s diamond eye. It’s not life-threatening, I think. If it’s on both eyes, it will get worse and your fish will eventually lose its vision. Tips: Feed in the same location every time, tap the tank (gently) twice to say that food is coming (you can teach bettas these things), if you can, use smellier foods.
Good for you for looking out for your fish! You’re a good fish parent 🙂
