Got him for my birthday, a few days back and his name changes every month. He's in a 4 gallon tank now and I'll set up the soil and live plants along with a filter soon. Need to buy driftwood too. He's getting along pretty well with his 2 apple snail roommates but he beefs with them occasionally. He's a smart, curious boy.
Can someone tell me if that's his real color or has it faded due to stress in the pet store? He has hints of shiny blue on him…

4 gallons is too small for a betta, definitely for a betta and two apple snails. Yikes!

I think getting the things you mentioned is a great idea.
He will need a bigger tank though, when you can afford one. It will reduce his beef with the snails too.
He’s probably going to color up brilliantly within the next month! Some bettas are like mood rings and change a completely different color/pattern!
