First time fish owner, I got my betta three days ago and at first he was exploring the tank and seemed happy swimming around. Since then he just stays in the roots of the plants in the top corner of the tank and isn’t eating or moving around, just breathing at the surface.
Prior to getting him I cycled the tank for 6 weeks and the current parameters are ammonia and nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 15ppm and PH 17.4. The temp is 26.1°c. His tankmates are 6 cardinal tetras which are happily eating and swimming around and 1 mystery snail in a 60L tank and he doesn’t show any interest in them. Lights are usually on for 7 hours per day but I’ve had them off so I don’t stress him out. Filter is a low flow and he wasn’t showing any signs of struggling with the flow
Apologies for the bad pics, didn’t want to stress him too much to get him to move. A white spot has also appeared on his side (pictured)
Thank you! I’m stressed and just want to do right by him
