Getting tired of searching for him every day and finding him all over the place, today he wasn't hard to spot and scared me…

The water parameters are great, all the fish are fine, I've had him about 2 months, whyyyyyy

Is that a nerite? If so they do move around in search of new food…. A lid or cage and increase availability of food for him in the tank

I recommend a lid for the tank. But this is unusual my small tank has snails and neon tetras and they never leave the tank it does not have a lid either.

I always find it a bit interesting when I see this. I don’t keep lids on any of my tanks (8) and I’ve never had an escapee. Occasionally they will come out of the waters edge a bit, but always go back in.

You should probably move your tank further away from the wall. No reason it should be able to reach the wall before the floor.

  5. I read recently about nerites and quietly there’s a variety that needs to cube it is the water at some point. I don’t remember too many details but it might be with looking up. I remember someone making some kind of out of water enclosure that they could enter and exit for his once he learned about it

That’s hilarious. I like the tank. Maybe bump up the lighting so that he has more algae to feed on?

  7. omg thats terrifying!! 😭😭 have you tried weighing down the lid or maybe sealing the edges slightly? snails are escape artists lol

Have you checked your water peramaters lately? They sometimes will continuously leave if their uncomfy check your amonia nitrites and nitrates as well as the ph if it’s not that or the temp he might not have enough food in there? If it’s a mystery snail it’s looking to lay eggs?

  9. it’s a snail.. doing snail things.. some just be like that. There was a post the other day of one on a chair

You can post over in r/aquaticsnails but while nerites will leave the water occasionally if it is persistent in doing this I think there’s an issue with the tank parameters or food availability.

These guys require a ph of over 7.5 and are a cool water type of snail which do best in tanks below 75 degrees.

They will only eat algae and biofilm, and do best in tanks over a year old.

Since they are all wild caught they don’t take prepared food well. You can blanch some zucchini and see if it will eat that, but few will.

I really really REALLY dislike snails (thanks to the great snail disaster of 2004**), and I am annoyed on your behalf, but I am CACKLING at this dude just packing his bags and moving out in search of a future bc he doesn’t wanna stay in this dead end town 🤣🤣

** my aunt had two 225 gallon tanks, one with 5 pirhanas, and one with 5 silver dollars and a pleco. One day she added some plants that we got from a small fish shop in our city, and within a month, both tanks were WALL TO WALL Micro snails. We could NOT get rid of them to save our lives. Every now and again they would get so thick that there was no visibility in a portion of the tanks and we would have to use a plastic blade to scrape them and relocate them. I have NO idea where she relocated them to, but I DO know that I have a couple pirhana mouth shaped scars on my arms because I scraped a little too close to the sun. 🤣
15 years later, and the snails were still a part of the tank. I can’t 😵‍💫😅

I keep a lid on my tank, and my nerites aren’t able to get out. There are gaps for wiring but luckily they’ve never managed to work out how to get through.

My tank isn’t filled to the top, there is about an inch gap between the water level and the top of the tank as Nerites do like to spend some time out of the water. One of mine is hanging out there currently. Maybe that could help?

  13. If your water parameters are fine, then you probably need a lid or to feed bits of algae wafer.

This is why I switched from nerites to mystery snails personally. If that is a nerite, in my experience, that’s normal.

So I’d say you probably don’t have enough food for him nerites eat a LOT so he’s on the hunt for more just turn your lights on for a bit longer and maybe add a pice of cucumber in there for him to nibble on should keep him from exploring
