Not sure why this got auto-removed from r/whatisthisfish so I’m trying again here. Some people on Fishbrain are saying largemouth but when I see people catching spotted bass on YouTube, they look like these. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would really suggest using your other hand to support the fish on its belly or just holding it vertically if taking pics. The way you’re holding it now, especially that second pic, really has all of their weight on their jaw and can be harmful

    Largemouth bass.

Also please never hold them like that. This puts a lot of stress on their jaw and can break it. Even if it doesn’t break, it definitely hurts.

Either grab their bottom lip and let their body hang straight down (not at an angle like this) or use two hands—one on the lip and one under the belly—to hold them sideways.

  3. Best way to avoid the thumb pain is just to keep catching fish. The little marks they leave behind is evidence of a good day, best of luck 👍🏼

Let’s all take a second and learn how to properly hold bass. Not judging. Let’s do them a favor shall we?

It’s not hurting the jaw on those lil fish. But yeah it’s better to keep them vertical. Or use both hands. Or least rest ur palm under the chin/ belly if ur gonna use one hand.
