First cast ended up like this first time using a dc reel didn’t go well.

Never encountered a backlash i couldn’t get out. Its just a matter of patience.

  2. Doesn’t look too tight so can probably pick it out. Lots of tips and tricks on YouTube for doing that.

It can definitely be saved. The most important rule of backlash: don’t try to force it. As tempting as it may be to grab the line and pull, it only tightens the knot.

I spend a certain amount of time trying to fix it(usually around 30 minutes), but if it still seems hopeless after that then I just cut it off and respool.

Easy peasy. Get practiced and you’ll be able to get backlashes like this out before your lure touches bottom.

Once you get home grab a beer and have at it. You’ll lose a lot of braid if you cut this out with scissors.

Most backlashes pull out easy. Just stop when you feel the spool start to tighten and pull the crossed strands to loosen them a little then start pulling line again. Do that gently for as long as it takes. 9/10 times that fixes it.

Take the spool completely out. I find it easier for the the “impossible” ones

I just grab the loose strands and pull them out as much as possible to loosen everything up. It usually untangles it after a few tries. Good luck!
