First baitcaster in my 30s, absolutely not a beginner but with these things I am lol, watched a bunch of videos and asked some friends and will start practising tonight with some 18g lures (middle to upper end of what I normally throw) with the hooks removed, was going to get a cheaper setup that was slightly heavier but this 2 piece was too tempting as I have started liking anything you can pack down as I live a looooong way from any water, 2 piece would have made me NOT buy it a decade ago lol

20lb braid for the diameter as its a nice 0.23mm and backed with 0.27mm 10lb mono and will leader with the same mono unless going for large fish, mostly intend to use for lure fishing callop, silver perch and murray cod in Australia, also anything medium sized that hits lures in salt like mulloway and black bream.

Wish me luck lol any advice welcome although I think ive worked out tuning as much as I can without actually casting.

As most of your beginner videos have said, max out the brakes, and set the spool tension so the lure falls slowly to the ground. It should fall just fast enough where when it hits the ground, the spool stops. Make your first few casts with the brakes maxed and back em off slowly as you get more comfy. Personally I found that letting go with your thumb just a touch earlier than you’re used to will help with accuracy with casts. Good luck homie
