I took this tank and the fish in it from a family member who was moving. It’s a 40 gallon hex tank. It was unfortunately in pretty rough shape.
It had a 13yo pleco in it (he’s moved to his own tank. He’s stunted, skinny and I’m sure has underlying health issues. We don’t know what we are going to do with him) probably going to end up giving him to the fish store.
There was gravel but we put in sand and threw in random items from the other tanks.
A neon tetra we euthanized. He was covered in what looked like epi and was on his way out.
2 guppies one looks like it has dropsy. Don’t know what I’m going to do with them. Originally wanted to put them in my community 75 but I’m not sure due to not wanting to spread health issues.
I’ve heard hexagon tanks aren’t great for fish. I have a betta who could in the future go in it. If we keep it we are going to add shelves inside for plants.
Question is: what could I put in here? Should I keep it with just plants? Also- goes this guppy look like it has dropsy? It doesn’t look right to me.

I follow this one instagram account. They sell these type of earth hangers to create walls of rotala. It looks really cool and maybe can help create height in an odd shape tank like this. The earth hanger is a plastic hanger with 3 levels to fill in with aquasoil and plants.
Maybe 2 or 3 earth hanger walls and a high substrate to bridge the depth in this tank? Could be amazing once fully filled in.

That mirror in the background fucked me up. I thought I was having an acid flashback!
If you want to get real DIY, you could take the panes apart and reseal the glass horizontally then take two pieces for the sides. Boom rimless tank!
