My first fish was a re-gifted Betta a girl in my dorm got and didnt want. It lived in a bowl on my desk with no filter, i took it home on the weekends in a gatorade bottle. I eventualy bought my first tank for him and he lived until 6 in a planted tank.

That was 24 years ago. Ive since worked in fish stores, bred various fish, met Takashi Amano, volunteered at the Atlanta Aquarium…

Im getting old and moved a bunch and am down to 1 55gallon that houses a single 16 year old pleco who im convinced is immortal.

I found my old quarantine tank in the shed and immediately decided to set it up for a Betta.

Meet Shelby! I went to 3 fish stores before i picked him out. Im slowly planting the tank, and there are a few ghost shrimp to help with cleanup. Im testing with ghost shrimp to see if he would eat them, but would like to get blue velvet shrimp once its fully planted.

I love everything about this post! And so great to read about your fish hobby story coming full circle. What a series of adventures you’ve had in between, wow!

Hopefully your ghost shrimp experieince turns out better than mine. At least my betta was well fed 🤣

    Hello, Shelby!
