Betta fish purchased 4 months ago became a little lethargic and stopped eating 2 days ago. It's more active now, but today the color on the sides started changing from blue to orange and a white patch developed on one side and under the mouth. What is the reason?

PS. We have tried changing the water twice in two days, and have not fed it in a day.

He’s in a half filled bowl where he should have a 5 gal with a heater, filter, cycled, live plants etc.

tropical fish in a tiny bowl of unfiltered, probably untreated, cold tap water, no beneficial bacteria colonies and not even enough water to handle the bioload so he’s constantly breathing in his own unprocessed shit dissolved in the water, since the volume is so low there’s for sure a nutrient buildup that contributes to terrible water quality, since the water is completely still there are most likely pathogens and possibly even parasites breeding in it like crazy, there could be dozens of reasons as to why he’s developing those discolorations, from sickness through constant stress to tumors, this is not a habitat a fish should be in, we have no info on the diet, bettas are carnivores that feed mainly on insects, if you’re not feeding the fish specialised bug-based protein rich food then he’s going to be constantly starving too, untill you improve his QoL it’s nearly impossible to tell what exactly is the cause since there’s so much possibility
