I’ve been having issues with my tank and every time I post, no one responds and the fish store is incredibly unhelpful. My cory is on its side, he isn’t dead yet but I just had this issue with my guppy and nothing is fixing the issues in my tank. My water parameters are fine, but two days ago my guppy was spinning as he swam, and would be curled on the floor of the tank. The next day, my cory started to do the same. I was told it was most likely swim bladder, so I haven’t fed the tank in 48hrs now. However, my guppy died and my cory is still swimming like this.

What is wrong with my tank? What can I do to fix anything? Should anything be removed from my tank to hopefully dismiss potentials of this happening again? I want to avoid more fish from dying please!!! This is an established tank for almost 2 years— 20 gal long, 4 mollies (and babies), only 2 guppies left, 2 panda cories, and 2 julii cories. I’ve lost a total of 6 fish within roughly a month!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Check your water parameters with api master freshwater kit. The ph, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Also whata the hardness of water? I don’t think it’s swimm bladder issue. Seems like either parameters or some parasites/internal infection

  2. Some times is good to treat it with praziquantel and some antifungal just to be sure .

I mean… the first problem you’re having is that the fish in the video is not on its side NOR is it a corydora. This is a guppy.

Regarding it swimming in circles and, potentially, laying on its side…
Very difficult to assess which is part of the reason you havent had a response from folks.

My best guess is a neurological issue from an injury or perhaps genetics.

Without seeing any outward signs of infection or rot etc. I would not suggest adding medications that you aren’t sure are needed.
I WOULD do a 25-50% water change, then add aquarium salt, then turn the lights off and let the fish relax for a couple of days. I would consider holding off feeding for that time, as well. It may simply be too difficult for the fish and you may just add waste to the tank.

Wish I could help more. Best of luck!

Edit: Egg on my face. Classic lack of reading the caption.
Definitely sounds like a systemic issue that is spreading between tank mate species.
I still would argue for a neurological issue but would scrap the injury or genetics thought for a infection of some sort given the spread.
TO DO: Get to your LFS and youre looking for some form of parasite treatment like ParaGuard (by SeaChem).
I would immediately do a 50% water change and do a few more over the next few days – minimum 25%.
I would still add salt, in addition to turning off lights, reducing feeding, and adding the ParaGuard.

  4. They should yes. It’s higher end there. That’s not the issue. Could be metals or chlorine or parasites .. kinda process of elimination …

That is a guppy. And corys really aren’t going to survive for any amount of time unless there’s 5+ in the group
