I have the same rod, mainly use it for top water and heavier Texas rigs.

Yes, but if your throwing treble hook topwater lures, mono is recommended over braid. It has a bit of stretch and acts as a shock absorber to lessen the chances of pulling the hooks. Braid is best for frogs. All that said, it all works. It just depends how dialed in you want to get.
