They didn’t apologize for it or anything, seemed irritated about it if anything when I brought them the 5 dead fish on their shelf. I asked them to surrender one of the struggling ones to give it a chance and they said they’d do a 15% discount (on the dying fish) petsmart in Nobelsville Indiana do better !!! This broke my heart.

So sad. We’ll only give you 15% off because we enjoy watching them die in their lil cups. 😭
I am so glad that I have never seen Bettas in cups here in Australia. The worst we have are the racks, but at least they are on a constant drip water change through a sump, and the actual space in the compartments seems to be a bit bigger as well. Still sad to see, and luckily there are some stores that forgo Betta racks entirely and keep them in tanks.
My husband and I simply refuse to shop at stores that have betta cups now. I can’t stand seeing them. Even the betta walls that have the constant drip and sumps are a little better but are still heartbreaking – if one fish gets sick in the wall it can crash and kill all of them. Happened to my LFS a couple of months ago.
Was at PetSmart and saw a girl floating sideways on deaths door. I asked if I could take her to try to rehab. I was told no, nothing is wrong with her we just changed the water … but this poor girl was clearly going to die…. No discount offered ither… some workers are annoyed I’m sure but holy crap at the end of the day it’s a living creature with a sweet soul wanting to take it… let us help 🩷
