I have my betta (Arthur) in a 5 gallon. There are a few planted plants, but mostly it's floaters. I clean out the duckweed once a week, but that is allowing the other floaters (and their longer roots) to flourish more. I know bettas like to swim through the roots, but I don't want to overcrowd his tank with plants.

I have a few floating rings, and his floating hammock that I make sure are clear (pic is pre-cleanout), so he has plenty of spots around the tank to surface. He also knows that's where I drop his food, and lets me know where he would like to dine each day.

What is your filter set up? I have similar plants and need some duckweed solutions, they keep crowding the filter inlet.

As long as he can breath! Otherwise, there’s rarely ever enough plants.

Well I personally don’t think you can have enough ! Unless the floating plants are making your inner plants die from blocking the light then it might be to many floaters lol 😂

It does reduce gas exchange if the surface is fully covered- since bettas breathe air that’s not as limiting but if you have tank mates I’d make sure there’s enough oxygen in the water

My tank was completely covered in floaters, and then he wasn’t making any bubble nests. So I removed them. The rest of the tank is heavily planted though.

As long as there’s an area open for your fish to get air, not really!

Duckweed always kills my red root floaters. I just dumped all my floaters because everything but the duckweed was drowning.
