Went to the West Branch of the Delaware for a float yesterday with a long-time friend who’d always wanted to try the sport. On her first day of fly fishing. With her very first cast of a dry fly. With a four weight. With 6x tippet. She hooks, fights, and lands the wild brown pictured. Making it all the more difficult were the rainy and turbid conditions. Honestly, one of the most exhilarating sequences of my life. Hats off to her and to local guide extraordinaire Brian Sheppard (@cityflynyc) for eight unforgettable hours on that beautiful river. Thanks all.
