Just got this guy a week ago. It's my first time owning a betta fish! I am still trying to get the water right. It's on the harder side right now, but I am trying to change it slowly over time.

About a week before I got him, I believe he had gotten his back fin sucked into the filter at the fish store, which is why it is so short and tattered now.

I was looking online for signs that he is a happy boy, and while he explores heaps and shows his gills off to me, I read that tucked fins could be a sign he's uncomfortable. I'm not really sure if he is tucking his fins, so I was hoping someone with a little more knowledge could let me know!

(This is how he usually looks)

TLDR; I can't tell if he's tucking his fins or not. Does he look particularly unhappy?

To me his condition look fine! Be carefull of the deseases that he might catch because of this little injury. Betta with long fins tend to develop fin rot quite easily, even more if you got him from a pet store!

    Good luck!
