I have just moved him to a temporary tank and seeded with sponge from a clean established tank, which is why water is cloudy. It will clear.
He is interested in food and has been resting more upright since this video was taken an hour or two ago. He needs rest, clean water, dark, oxygen etc but my main query is about the whiteness around his gill as not sure what it is.
Background (tho my main q is just what’s up with his gills)
He is usually in a community tank. 2 months ago I treated tank with levamisole and he reacted badly, with his jaw open for a few weeks. But that improved. Then 2 weeks ago one of the tetras and a few corys in there got ich so I treated whole tank. That was all fine. Then a week ago noticed the apistogramma had pop eye. Moved him to temporary tank, treated with esha 2000, Epsom salt and api aquarium salt. Swelling around his eye massively reduced while the eye itself seemed to stay a bit pushed out. However he seemed to be doing okay and I moved him back to main tank 3 days ago (error).
The main tank is 50cm tall and he was struggling, he wasn’t at all ready to go back and I was lucky to have found him when I did as he was gasping on the substrate. Immediately got him into a shallow Tupperware tub overnight (with air) then today got the temporary tank out. I know there are various debates around hard floor vs substrate but I am anticipating him being in here for 2-3 weeks at least so I want him comfortable, calm, with familiarity as far as possible and I can keep it clean. It’s new sand, obviously.
No meds, he’s had so many of them recently, just a low level of pure Epsom Salt. 15cm / 6 inches of water. 2 x mini sponge filters. No specific light, blacked out apart from the front glass 50% uncovered during day. No ammonia, nitrites and nitrates 5ish. 23-24°C. GH 8-10 (same as main tank but will increase with the Epsom salt). Ph 7.2-3, again same as his normal tank.
